'Slow Boat' by David Frazer is the largest linoprint we've ever had at Wishart Gallery.
It's a powerful image, full of intricate detail which sprawls across an impressive 210 by 150cm cut of cotton rag paper.
Frazer's 'Slow Boat' series is whimsical, melancholic and deeply Australian. Our colonial relationship to our landscape has a fundamental tension that has long been the subject of works by Australian artists - just think of McCubbin, Roberts and Von Guerard. David Frazer continues this tradition, adding his own wry Aussie humour by depicting a boat that serves no purpose as it floats in the foreground of a dry landscape.
